According to the Ministry, the number of deaths due to dengue fever complications remains at 19 nationwide, while 488 people with symptoms of the virus transmitted by the Aedes mosquito were admitted on Wednesday.
The Deputy Minister of Collective Health, Eladio Perez, said at a press conference that in the last week no deaths have been reported due to this cause, and the lethality rate in the nation is 0.1 percent.
Perez assured that contagions are decreasing and that the incidence rate is much lower than in previous periods.
The Dominican Republic is experiencing a dengue epidemic which a few weeks ago caused the collapse of pediatric hospitals due to the number of children with symptoms of the disease who were accompanied by their parents to the emergency services.
The tense situation forced the Government to set up last October an Action Cabinet against Dengue, made up of several agencies and entities of the civil society, focused on the control and prevention of this disease.
