During his reception of the Cuban ambassador in Damascus, Luis Mariano Fernández Rodríguez, Sabbagh considered that the positions of the two nations towards different issues and challenges in the world are similar and, in most cases, identical. “We both suffer from the unjust blockade and unilateral coercive measures imposed by the US government and its Western allies,” Sabbagh said.
The minister highlighted the efforts made by Cuba as president of the Group of 77 and China, and reaffirmed that Syria will be represented at the Summit of Leaders of the bloc to be held next December in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, within the framework of the Conference of States Parties to the Climate Change Convention (COP28).
The Cuban ambassador reiterated Cuba’s position in support of Syria in its fight against terrorism and occupation and appreciated the support and affection of the Syrian people towards Cuba and its leaders.
He also thanked the Syrian delegation for its support in the United Nations´ General Assembly, in particular for its vote and condemnation of the United States blockade against Cuba.
Both the ambassador and the deputy foreign minister expressed their repudiation of the crimes committed by the Israeli army against the Palestinian people in the occupied territories, particularly in the Gaza Strip.
