Lavrov recalled that Russia is historically linked to those two regions, which at one point were part of the former Soviet Union along with Russia, and its allies and partners know this very well.
Lavrov commented on an article that appeared in the Western press following French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Kazakhstan, calling the country “the backyard of Russian President Vladimir Putin,” and noted that the leaders of the Western world “allow themselves to make quite rude statements.”
“Macron publicly stated during his visit to Kazakhstan that he was glad that Kazakhstan will never be anyone’s vassal. Something quite shameless for a diplomatic language,” the minister stressed.
