As reported the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), since last Sunday night, ash caused by the volcanic activity of Etna began to fall on the towns of Milo and Zafferana Etnea, located north of Etna, in the province of Catania, in the region of Sicily.
During the early hours of Sunday morning, an increase in lava emission was recorded, in a southeast direction, with an ascent of magma through the internal conduits of the volcanic structure, which caused an increase in the level and frequency of tremors, which worries the experts.
Although the eruptive column reached a height of 4.5 kilometers, local authorities decided to keep the nearby Vincenzo Bellini International Airport of Catania active, due to the fact that the current eruptive phase of Etna is concentrated in the area of the volcanic summit.
The situation is being followed by specialists of the EtNeo Observatory of INGV, Catania, which monitors the activity of this volcano by analyzing images from the network of surveillance cameras and other technical means, in view of the growing concern of an aggravation in the coming hours, the source adds.
