Harare, Nov 9 (Prensa Latina) President Emmerson Mnangagwa called on Thursday for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, where Israeli bombardments have caused thousands of civilian casualties.

Mnangagwa, represented by Defense Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri as he left for an official visit to Saudi Arabia this Thursday, made a call at an event to commemorate the 78th anniversary of the United Nations in this capital.

As we reflect on the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter, which call for the peaceful settlement of disputes, let me use this opportunity to join the world in calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and an immediate end to hostilities that have resulted in the untold suffering of civilians, the president said.

Mnangagwa also urged all parties involved in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to give dialogue a chance and focus all efforts towards finding durable, mutually beneficial, and sustainable solutions.

In his remarks, he also called for revitalizing the United Nations to make an adequate, credible, relevant, and responsive organization, and the complex challenges facing the world today can only be addressed through international cooperation with the world body at the center.
