“All our acknowledgement of the men and women who make up the Border Brigade of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, who jealously guard the territory surrounding the illegal Guantanamo naval base, faithful defenders of the Homeland,” Marrero wrote on his X account.
The Cuban Workers’ Confederation and other institutions also recalled the founding of this Border Battalion, near the town of Caimanera, some 22 kilometers from the provincial capital, on November 9, 1961.
This Eastern Army Unit protects the border perimeter with the illegal Guantanamo naval base, installed by the United States for 120 years, after the signing of the Naval and Coal Bases Lease Treaty in 1903.
It is currently kept occupied against the Cuban people’s express will and in violation of the most basic standards of international law.
