Palestine’s poverty ramps up due to ongoing Israeli onslaughts

Geneva, Nov 9 (Prensa Latina) Whether the war in Gaza pursues for another month, the poverty rate in Palestine will ramp up 34% and will push nearly half a million more people into misery, an official study warned on Thursday.

As a whole, the Palestinian State is at risk of losing up to 16 years of progress in terms of human development, according to the UN Development Program (UNDP) and the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).

A third month of the current Israel-Hamas conflict would scale up poverty by nearly 45%, and would drag 660,000 other inhabitants into this harsh situation. Meanwhile, Palestine´s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) would drop as low as 12.2%, and total losses would jump to USD$2.5 billion.
