Although there was a heated debate on Tuesday night among the representatives of Pacto Historico, the government coalition that defends the proposal because it favors the majority of Colombian society, and the opposition parties, particularly Cambio Radical and Centro Democratico, the draft bill is moving forward.

According to Alfredo Mondragon, rapporteur of the reform, ten articles were approved on Tuesday, including how the State health institutions will be financed, so that they will not have to sell services, but a budget to hire workers in a dignified manner will be guaranteed.

In addition, he stressed that the institutions should have the technology and infrastructure to fulfill their duties with quality.

This is a step forward for the country, although the opposition legislators tried to prevent these results, Mondragon emphasized in a video posted on his X profile, formerly Twitter.

The representative of the Centro Democratico, Andres Forero, noted after a heated iscussion with David Racero, from Pacto Historico, that they will do their best to sink the reform.

“Of course we will continue to sabotage it, we will continue to do it”, the member of the party, founded by former President Alvaro Uribe, said in reference to the negative votes or absences at the debates as they have done so far.

The initiative, which was filed in February by former Health Minister Carolina Corcho and was approved on May 23 in its first discussion at the 7th Commission of the Lower House, essentially seeks to make health care a universal right and not a commodity.
