Cuba hosts cardiology congress

Havana, Nov 8 (Prensa Latina) The 10th Cuban Congress of Cardiology, under the motto "Global challenges in addressing cardiovascular diseases" begins today, November 8th, and will continue until next Friday.

Local professionals and from overseas will participate in the event, which will also include the 1st Cuban Congress of Heart Failure and Pulmonary Hypertension, aimed at exchanging experiences on the prevention, diagnosis, medical, surgical, interventional treatment, and rehabilitation of patients suffering from diseases of the heart and great vessels.

According to the organizing committee, the goal of the event is to overcome the current challenges in handling coronary heart disease, the leading cause of death in Cuba and worldwide, high blood pressure, heart failure, arrhythmia, valve and coronary surgery, among others.

The Congress will deal with advances that Science and Technological Innovation at a global level have contributed to, in recent years, as well as updated cardiac imaging diagnostic techniques, treatments with new drugs, ablation, state-of-the-art pacemakers, cardio-defibrillators, plastic surgeries, and percutaneous heart valve prostheses.

Recent stents (vascular endoprostheses), new surgical techniques in adults and pediatric patients, and new approaches in cardiac rehabilitation will be presented, among many other data of interest, to local and foreign professionals devoted to the specialty.

Cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, intensivists, anesthesiologists, and other related specialists, with a long history of work, will participate in both congresses.

The presence of over a hundred national and foreign specialists, mainly from Latin America, the United States, and Europe, will ease learning about the most current experiences worldwide.
