Cuba considers education fundamental for peace at Unesco

Paris, Nov 8 (Prensa Latina) Education is the basis for consolidating peace, sustainable development and social justice, hence the importance of promoting it, Cuban Minister of Education Naima Ariatne Trujillo said today at UNESCO.

In this regard, she said that it is not possible to imagine an alternative, sustainable and inclusive development model without mobilizing human potential and scientific and technological capacities or the humanist values that education can promote.

“All of us present here share one of the most decisive and universal challenges of the contemporary world: the permanent improvement of education as a privileged tool for the development and resilience of socioeconomic models and of human existence itself,” he emphasized in the forum held within the framework of the 42nd General Conference of the organization, which is in session from November 7 to 22 with the participation of its 194 Member States.

In this regard, Trujillo affirmed that no country will be able to advance further than its educational systems.

Based on this conviction, the minister conveyed to the participants in the high-level event wishes for success in the essential task of education for our peoples and Cuba’s willingness to coordinate interests and build consensus routes in the contemporary scenario.

In her opinion, the current context calls as never before to promote unity, solidarity and international cooperation in the field of education to accelerate progress towards the fourth goal of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, devoted to education.

In her speech, the head of the Caribbean country’s delegation to the 42nd UNESCO General Conference described it as an urgency to continue advancing in the fulfillment of the global goals expressed in that multilateral instrument agreed in 2015 by the United Nations.
