During the meeting, Shoukry called on the international community to assume its legal and humanitarian responsibilities to reach a ceasefire and end this catastrophe, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abu-Zeid said in a statement.
He also criticized Israel’s ongoing bombings on civilian facilities and the collective punishment policy of blockade and displacement.
The foreign minister reviewed Egypt’s efforts and the results of its political contacts with regional and international partners and UN organizations and agencies to achieve a ceasefire and increase humanitarian aid to the enclave.
Türk, in turn, praised Egypt’s efforts to contain the crisis and work for its end.
As part of his Middle East tour, which started in Cairo on Monday, the UN official has met with Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit to discuss the situation in Gaza.
