National Traffic Day seeks to prevent road accidents in Cuba

Havana, Nov 6 (Prensa Latina) The 60th National Traffic Day today seeks to prevent road accidents in Cuba, where from June to August last year more than 1,000 accidents occurred, resulting in 72 deaths and 543 injured.

According to information from the Specialized Traffic Body of the General Directorate of the National Revolutionary Police, published by Cubadebate, three of these accidents had serious consequences, including one in Santiago de Cuba with four deaths and nine injured.

The 60th edition of this day of activities throughout the country began this Sunday in the central province of Camagüey and will conclude on the 25th, Colonel Roberto Rodríguez Fernández, head of the Specialized Traffic Body of the General Directorate of the National Revolutionary Police, announced to the press.

Under the slogan “Love for road safety” the objective of the Day is to promote actions that contribute to transform the negative behaviors that influence road safety and at the same time to socialize good practices that allow a change of behavior on the road, the officer said in a meeting with journalists from the national media.

Throughout this month, professional drivers and entities of the Automotive Transport Business Group will be recognized, as well as drivers with 10, 15, 20 or more years without accumulating traffic accidents.
