India and Iran evaluate conflict in the region

New Delhi, Nov 6 (Prensa Latina) The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, and the President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, discussed the difficult situation in the region with emphasis on the situation in the Palestinian territories.

According to a statement from Modi’s office, the Indian Prime Minister expressed deep concern over the “terrorist incidents, violence and loss of civilian lives.”

He also reiterated India’s long-standing and consistent position on the Israel-Palestine issue, and the Iranian president shared his assessment of the situation, the release said.

Both leaders emphasized the need to prevent escalation, ensure continued humanitarian assistance and the early restoration of peace and stability, according to the official text.

They also reviewed and positively assessed the progress in the multifaceted bilateral cooperation.

Modi and Raisi further expressed satisfaction with the focus and priority given to Iran’s Chabahar port to enhance regional connectivity.

They agreed to remain in touch given the shared interest in regional peace, security and stability, the message from the Indian Prime Minister’s Office concludes.

Earlier, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyan Jaishankar shared a similar issue with his Iranian counterpart Hussein Amir Abdollahian.

In a telephone conversation, both foreign ministers agreed on the importance of preventing escalation and providing humanitarian support.

A recent United Nations report states that more than 1.5 million Palestinians fled their homes in the Gaza Strip after a month of Israeli bombardments, which caused almost 10,000 deaths and around 22,000 wounded.
