Frente Amplio points out cabinet changes due to scandals in Uruguay

Fernando-Pereira-768x512
Montevideo, Nov 6 (Prensa Latina) In the Uruguayan cabinet almost 60% of the positions of ministers and undersecretaries were dismissed due to scandals, the president of the opposition Frente Amplio, Fernando Pereira, affirmed.

“The current political and government crisis is so massive that in a single day there were changes in four ministries”, he said about the resignations and replacements decided by President Luis Lacalle Pou given the so-called “Marset case”.

This is a plot around the issuance of a passport to Uruguayan drug trafficker Sebastián Marset in 2021, when he was imprisoned in Dubai for false documentation.

The previous week, the former vice-chancellor Carolina Ache delivered to the Attorney General’s Office evidence that involved high government authorities in the purpose of hiding information on the matter.

This provoked the resignation of Foreign Minister Francisco Bustillo, Interior Minister Luis Alberto Heber, Deputy Interior Minister Guillermo Maciel and presidential advisor Roberto Lafluf, all of them accepted by Lacalle Pou.

Fernando Pereira considered in a press conference that those implicated deserved to be replaced.
