Cuban Museum of Dance celebrates 25th anniversary

Havana, Nov 6 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Museum of Dance is turning 25 years on Monday, which is occurring during the celebrations on the 75th anniversary of the National Ballet of Cuba (BNC).

Half a century after the creation of the National Ballet of Cuba by Prima Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso, he inaugurated the institution, which is attached to the National Council of Cultural Heritage, also in the context of Havana’s International Ballet Festival.

On November 6, 1998, Alicia Alonso declared the gallery open, a significant event for the world of dance due to the attributes that have been exhibited there, especially objects used by the prima ballerina assoluta in many of her performances.

The idea, forged since 1945 by the artist, was initially dedicated to classical ballet; however, little by little, its design embraced folklore and popular dance.

Among the collections of the National Museum of Dance stands out Alicia Alonso’s private collection, as well as a sample of decorative art from the 17th and 19th centuries.

With this history, the institution became the only museum of dance in Latin America and the Caribbean, and one of few worldwide.
