Cuban jurist remembered in DPRK

Pyongyang, Nov 6 (Prensa Latina) An emotional chronicle about the deceased Cuban jurist Candelaria Rodriguez Hernandezwas, was published today by KCNA, the state news agency of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), .

The text recalled that the professional first visited the country in late May 1951, at the time of the liberation war, as part of a delegation of the Women’s International Democratic Federation, and upon her return to Cuba, she wrote several articles on the atrocities committed by the United States.

She was a staunch opponent of the Fulgencio Batista government’s intention to send mercenaries to Korea and was imprisoned on several occasions, “but she always supported our just cause,” KCNA said.

She recalled that 40 years later, when she visited the DPRK again, President Kim Il Sung invited her to lunch on November 5, 1993 and praised her contributions to the friendship between the two nations, and asked her to stay in the DPRK until the New Year holidays, to which she agreed.

On that occasion Candelaria fulfilled an intense agenda in the country and was able to visit places of interest in Pyongyang and the Myohyang and Kumgang mountains, KCNA noted.

She also recalls that in subsequent visits to the DPRK the jurist was also received by Kim Il Sung, who considered her “a companion of revolutionary struggles who always identified herself with the just cause of our people”.

Candelaria Rodriguez Hernandez wrote several books on the Korean reality that were translated into several languages and devoted great praises to comrades Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, KCNA said.

When the Cuban woman passed away on July 8, 1994, President Kim Il Sung received the news with deep sorrow and said the DPRK was losing a dear friend whose last wish was that her ashes be scattered over the Korean mountains.
