The resolution was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly by 187 votes in favor, two against (the United States and Israel) and one abstention (Ukraine).
“This is a great political and moral victory for the Cuban Revolution, which achieves the almost unanimous support of the international community,” the president of the PCCh, Lautaro Carmona, told Prensa Latina.
Carmona also mentioned the request made by the Chilean president, Gabriel Boric, to his US counterpart, Joe Biden, to eliminate sanctions against Cuba and exclude it from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.
The president of the PCCh sent greetings to the Cuban people and government and expressed his eternal gratitude for Cuba’s solidarity with Chile.
The general secretary of the Party, Bárbara Figueroa, highlighted Chile’s support for the resolution presented by Cuba at the UN for the thirty-first time. “One would hope that these resolutions that are approved year after year in the United Nations would have a binding character, as well as those approved in the UN on Palestine,” she said.
The mayor of the Recoleta commune and leader of the PCCh, Daniel Jadue, affirmed that the blockade imposed on Cuba is a crime against humanity and ought to be prosecuted in international courts.
