On Friday evening, the anniversary was commemorated at the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), after outlining the history of those deeds that were generated since November 28, 1821 with the liberation of the Spanish colony, Rivera recalled patriotic Panamanians like General Omar Torrijos and his tireless efforts to recover the Panama Canal and surrounding areas once in the hands of the United States.
That epic was also waged by the Non-Aligned Movement, whose definitive support was possible thanks to the role of Cuba and, in particular, that of the Commander in Chief, he stressed.
During the activity, attended by the Hero of the Republic of Cuba and president of the ICAP, Fernando González, the vice-president of that organization, Noemi Rabassa, recognized the work in the isthmus of solidarity organizations, whose fundamental axis, together with the Martian Association of Cuban Residents, has been the condemnation of the blockade that Washington has imposed on the largest of the Antilles for more than six decades. Rabassa also thanked the help received from Panama of medical supplies to alleviate the contingencies of Covid-19, climatic effects and unfortunate accidents on the island.
In the Month of the Homeland, she said, Ambassador Rivera deserves special recognition and his intense participation in the collaboration of Cuban doctors who fought in Panama against the pandemic and in the training of professionals from the canal nation in Cuban universities.
The commemoration of the anniversary also featured performances by children from the República de Panamá Special School and the Alejo Carpentier Dance School.
The celebrations in Havana of the Panamanian national holiday included floral offerings to the National Hero José Martí and before the bust of General Omar Torrijos, in this capital.
