The largest of the Antilles took the first scepter awarded in the women’s competition, thanks to Yusneylis Guzmán (50 kilograms), and closed with the last two of the men’s free, by the neck of Alejandro Valdés (65) Yurieski Torreblanca (86) , the latter two to repeat their Lima 2019 crowns.
The current Pan American runner-up and gold medalist in the last Central American Championships in San Salvador in the minimum division won the title 5-2 over the Ecuadorian Jacqueline Mollocana.
For their part, both Valdés and Torreblanca defeated American rivals by one punch and 3-2, respectively.
Meanwhile, Giullia Rodrigues today gave Brazil its first crown in the Santiago 2023 fight, by winning the 57 kilogram division.
Rodrigues, multiple medalist in Pan American sports tournaments, defeated Canadian Hannah Taylor for the title, in an interesting duel that ended 7-6 at the Olympic Training Center.
The dispute for medals in the last three women’s divisions and the debut of the men’s Greco will mark tomorrow’s day.
