Floods of Paraguayan rivers due to storms displace 2,000 families

Asuncion, Nov 3 (Prensa Latina) Floods due to heavy rains in Paraguay of rivers such as the mighty Parana displaced from their communities some two thousand families who are now suffering hardship, radio Universo 970 AM reported today.

The most affected regions are Tavapy, Ayolas, Coronel Martínez, San Cosme, Damián, Hernandarias, Laurel and Villalbín, all due to overflowing of the Monday, Paraná and Tebicuary rivers, Colonel Arsenio Zárate, head of the National Emergency Secretariat, said.

The damage caused by heavy rainfall and thunderstorms increased with a tornado in the Santaní area which caused 17 injuries and the death of an 11-year-old girl.

The storm caused a blackout the day before in this capital and other neighboring cities, whose electrical installations were damaged, according to the newspaper Últimas Noticias.

The rains of the last hours destroyed the feeders of the National Energy Administration of this and other cities in neighboring departments such as Central.
