This is the most serious political crisis of the current administration, unleashed by revelations by former Foreign Minister Carolina Ache, who accused Foreign Minister Francisco Bustillo and Presidential Advisor Roberto Lafluf of conspiracy to eliminate compromising chats about a passport issued to Uruguayan drug trafficker Sebastián Marset.
Ache said on Wednesday at the Prosecutor’s Office that Bustillo asked her to “disappear” her cell phone, while Lafluf urged her to delete WhatsApp messages in which Undersecretary of the Interior Guillermo Maciel warned about Marset’s danger.
In statements to reporters, Senator Manini hinted that Lacalle might be aware of what Lafluf, his advisor for Image and Communications, was doing.
Due to such revelations, Foreign Minister Bustillo resigned on Wednesday, although Senator Manini considers that due to the seriousness of the matter, the departure of the foreign minister is not enough.
