“We call for the removal of this blockade, which has been in force for decades, and which not only generates unnecessary wounds on the economy, but also suppresses the expressions of development of the Cuban people’s growth potential,” the Jamaican representative expressed.
He also noted that Cuba’s inclusion on the list of countries that sponsor terrorism deepens the challenges for Cuba’s participation in commercial relations and financial cooperation with third countries.
“Jamaica considers that this prolonged blockade is contrary to the norms and ethics that govern friendly relations among States, trade and international navigation, and continues to be the main obstacle to the Cuban people’s prosperity,” he referred.
“For too long the Cuban people have suffered in an unjustified and undignified manner the consequences of these unilateral measures, for which reason Jamaica repeats its call for an end to this blockade,” the representative said on the last day of debates at the UN General Assembly on Cuba’s resolution, entitled “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.”
