Speaking at the UN General Assembly (UNGA), Squeff expressed her country’s firm opposition to the use of unilateral coercive measures and the adoption of discriminatory trade practices, in addition to calling for the exclusion of Cuba from the States Sponsor of Terrorism (SST) list.
The US blockade is more than half a century old and, in addition to being morally unjustifiable, it really violates the UN Charter, the norms of international law and the spirit of multilateralism.
Argentina renews its absolute commitment to the principles of sovereign equality of States, non-intervention in their internal affairs and freedom of trade and navigation, she said.
Furthermore, she stated that the US blockade is the main hurdle to Cuba´s economic and social development.
The blockade must stop. It is the longest system of unilateral sanctions applied against any country. Since 1992, UNGA has been pronouncing annually, by an overwhelming majority, in favor of respecting international norms and the right of the Cuban people to choose their own destiny, she affirmed.
