US blockade against Cuba is anachronistic, Trinidad and Tobago states

United Nations, Nov 1 (Prensa Latina) Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday repeated its opposition to the economic, commercial and financial blockade that the United States has imposed on Cuba for more than 60 years at the United Nations General Assembly.

“For years, the entire world has opposed this anachronistic policy, which has a negative impact on the Cuban people and is a violation of the United Nations Charter,” said the Caribbean representative at the first debate at the United Nations General Assembly on Cuba’s draft resolution, entitled “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.”

The blockade unjustly imposed on Cuba continues to prevent the Caribbean island from realizing its potential towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), and hinders the full enjoyment of human rights, including the right to development, by the Cuban people, he added.

He said that the “Cuba’s inclusion on the State Sponsors of Terrorism list is unconvincing and only widens the rift and frustrates the possibility of normalization of diplomatic relations between the two countries.”

“Trinidad and Tobago, therefore, will continue to support national and international efforts to promote constructive dialogue to end these unilateral measures, which undermine Cuba’s sustainable development and, therefore, in the Caribbean region,” he stated.

“In the search for collective peace and prosperity, it is imperative that no one is left behind, for this reason, Trinidad and Tobago, once again, demands an end of the blockade against Cuba, as I said before,” he concluded.
