Nuclear reactor proposals evaluated in Czech Republic

Prague, Nov 1 (Prensa Latina) Three multinationals are competing for a multimillion-dollar contract to build another nuclear reactor in the Czech Republic, the state company CEZ, whose experts are evaluating the technical proposals for government approval, confirmed.

The US company Westinghouse, the French firm EdF and the South Korean enterprise KHNP submitted on time their respective projects to execute the work at the Dukovany station, the source said on Tuesday.

According to the announcement, the transnationals that met the deadline had already delivered preliminary formulations in March 2022, focusing on inherent safety issues.

The winner of the contract will have the opportunity to build three more reactors on Czech territory, said the concessionary entity, which aims to put the new Dukovany unit into operation in 2036, when it would join the four existing ones there, whose per capita power amounts to 510 megawatts.

The Czech Republic currently has six nuclear reactors to generate more than one-third of its electricity, when adding the four at Dukovany and the two located at the Temelin plant.
