WTO published new edition of trade profiles

Geneva, Oct 31 (Prensa Latina) The World Trade Organization (WTO) published today a new annual report on the behavior of international transactions, with statistics related to the economies of 197 countries.

The 2023 edition of the Profiles contains key data on trade and services in the sector, including the main exports and imports of each State in question and its key interlocutors.

In the case of merchandise, the document details figures on sales and external purchases of agricultural assortments and non-agricultural products, while addressing the issue of benefits with information about transportation, travel and other commercial services.

It also includes statistics on intellectual property, for example in relation to patent and trademark applications.

According to the WTO, the study considered multiple sources, including customs records, national accounts, balance of payments statistics, trade in services of foreign affiliates and industrial property.

The international organization recently reduced its forecasts for 2023, placing the possible growth of world trade at just 0.8 percent, that is, well below the previous year when the increase reached 2.7 percentage points.

The effects of persistent inflation and restrictive monetary policies in the United States, the European Union and other economies, as well as the behavior of the property market in China, prevented a greater recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic, the entity judged.

Such events, added to the consequences of the war in Ukraine, darkened the prospects for trade, whose slowdown, the WTO opined, appears to be widespread, affecting a large number of countries and a wide range of assortments.
