This morning, the German president was received by his Tanzanian counterpart, Samia Suluhu Hassan, at Ikulu, the presidential residence, located in this city, the economic center of Tanzania, whose capital since 1996 is the city of Dodoma.
The presidential tour will be extended to Zambia, where he will leave after completing his three-day agenda in Zambia.
The welcoming ceremony, at the Julius Nyerere International Airport, was led by the Tanzanian Foreign Minister, January Makamba, also in charge of East African cooperation.
The official Tanzanian statement announcing Steinmeier’s arrival underlined that his visit aims to strengthen the historical relations (between the two states) that have lasted more than 60 years.
To the north, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is making official visits to Ghana and Nigeria, designed, according to sources in his delegation, to “strengthen diplomatic and developmental relations of German investors in Africa, especially in the area of green energy”.
