Rome, Oct 31 (Prensa Latina) The exhibition "Vocación" (Vocation), of contemporary Cuban art, with 17 painters works, was inaugurated at the headquarters of the Italo-Latin American International Organization (IILA) in this capital as part of Cuba's Culture Day, a spokesman stated on Tuesday.

IILA Secretary General Antonella Cavallari and Cuban Ambassador to Italy, Mirta Granda, presided over the exhibition’s inauguration. Granda stressed that this exhibition was a successful conclusion to the celebration of Cuba’s Culture Day in October, which this year was dedicated to new artists.

This 2023 edition also paid tribute to the 220th birthday of poet José María Heredia and the 75th anniversary of the National Ballet of Cuba (BNC), founded by prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, the diplomat said.

Granda added that this initiative helped develop cultural and historical ties between the two nations.

IILA directors, members of the Latin American diplomatic corps accredited to Italy, Cuban residents in Italy, representatives of several political forces, and members of associations forming the solidarity movement with Cuba attended the event, which took place on Monday.

The exhibition’s curator, Suzzete Rodríguez, thanked the Cuban Embassy for its support and the IILA for hosting the exhibit. According to her, it allows the work of outstanding Cuban painters to be visible in Rome, the source added.
