Two members of the Ragnar Locker hacker group arrested in Spain

Madrid, Oct 28 (Prensa Latina) Forces of the Guardia Civil, with the collaboration of Interpol, arrested in the province of Alicante two members of the hacker group Ragnar Lockek, official sources informed. A dispatch from the Spanish Crown indicated that one of those arrested was of Ukrainian origin and the other Estonian, who could be related to a ransomware attack against 168 national companies.

Another arrest of a member of the network took place in Latvia, as part of a large-scale international police operation involving 11 countries, the television station noted in the capital.

According to European judicial bodies, the alleged ringleader of the cyber-group was arrested in France. The organization collected crucial data from companies in charge of vital infrastructure elements such as Portugal’s national airline.

Ragnar Locker’s modus operandi was the use of ransomware, a type of malware to lock a victim’s data or devices in exchange for a ransom, between five and 70 million dollars, under threat of hiding that information in an anonymous segment of the Internet (DarkNet).
