“Due to her culture, her wisdom and simplicity, she won the hearts of the Cuban people. Our condolences go to her family,” the president wrote on his X account, formerly Twitter.

Ortiz was a doctor in Philological Sciences, professor at the University of Havana, professor of merit at the Enrique José Varona Higher Pedagogical Institute and National Labor Hero of the Republic of Cuba.

She was one of the founders and the only female panelist on “Escriba y Lea,” which has been broadcast uninterruptedly since 1969. It is a television program that has helped, guided and stimulated many generations in the search for knowledge and general culture.
