“Armed conflicts, anywhere, are governed by international humanitarian law, which means that civilians must be protected and have the essentials to survive, wherever they are and choose to move or stay,” Hastings affirmed in a press release.

The UN official referred to the Israeli Army’s constant calls on people to leave their homes north of the coastal enclave and move south in the face of an imminent ground offensive.

She stressed that warnings make no difference for those who cannot evacuate because they have nowhere to go or cannot move.

She also called for the immediate and unconditional liberation of all hostages.

Last week, Hastings called for a ceasefire to ease the situation in the Gaza Strip, where more than 6,500 people have been killed so far.

The enclave is going through an unprecedented humanitarian crisis due to airstrikes and Israel’s decision to impose a total blockade, which includes cutting off drinking water and energy supplies and refusing to allow the arrival of food, medicines, and fuel.
