The also Representative to the National Assembly (Parliament) of Cuba said in dialogue with Prensa Latina that the North American people must have the full right to enjoy everything we have to offer.
Fajardo also defended that artists from her country can interact here, because “artistic manifestations have always had a need to meet again” between both cultures.
It is important, she pointed out, that “our artists have much greater visibility, a higher level of promotion, that our artistic education system is strengthened at the same time,” but the effect of the unilateral siege has imposed on the island for over 60 years.
She reiterated that her country is the victim of a strict economic, commercial and financial blockade by successive United States governments and that has limited the ability to obtain “materials for our students to train”; however, she praised the results of the Cuban school even in the midst of such hardship.
This policy itself has caused, for example, that cultural institutions are unable to obtain visas in time for presentations of our artistic units here in the United States.
“We have also been limited to ensuring that a good number of our artists can visit more systematically this country,” Fajardo stressed, insisting this denotes that “we always think it could be better.”
The young representative commented that during the trip, which concluded in Tampa, Florida, “they held important exchanges with various cultural institutions and media outlets.”
She considered that “our expectation to be able to position Cuban Culture here” has also been strengthened, since genres such as jazz and performing arts have very fertile ground in these parts.
However, she reiterated, the union that culture offers is an element that cannot be broken with suffocation policies.
Fajardo was part of a delegation of cultural promoters that, for several days, toured US territory.
In addition to Washington DC, the group visited the cities of Mobile (Alabama), San Francisco (California), New York, and Tampa (Florida). ef/ro/dfm
