The United Nations was formally established on October 24, 1945, four months after representatives of 50 countries met in San Francisco, the United States, and agreed to draft and sign the founding Charter of the organization, which would be responsible for maintaining international peace and security after World War II (1939-1945).
The date provides an annual opportunity to broaden the agenda and reaffirm the purposes and principles of the UN Charter that its member states have guided for 78 years.
Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez reaffirmed on Tuesday his country’s firm commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and also reiterated the Government’s commitment to international law and the defense of multilateralism based on a democratic, just, and equitable international order.
