Cuba’s mining industry seeks alternatives ahead of US blockade

Camaguey, Cuba, Oct 25 (Prensa Latina) Founded in December, nearly 47 years ago, the Camaguey Mining Company is currently seeking new challenges for the export of chrome and gold currently despite the effects of the U.S. blockade imposed on Cuba.

Although the 1Q 2023 did not gain the best profits “due to the shortage of fuel affects mining a lot,” Yusniel Sanchez, director of Operations, unfolded the company’s goal is to meet the export plan at 86%.

“This year we have made four paramount exports and we are getting ready for a fifth one,” the specialist refers, noting the domestic market with the production of zeolite, in addition to paints, detergents and other derivatives.

“It is necessary to point out our contribution to agriculture because we are aware of the importance of producing food; hence the calcium carbonate, and the “agromena” with about 600 extra tons of a plan of 1,900, gives us some satisfaction,” Sanchez explains.

Innovations have been constant to solve the shortages caused by the U.S. blockade against Cuba, “because the U.S. harasses our markets, Washington censors them and this seriously affects domestic economy,” he concluded.
