Cubans pay tribute to martyrs fallen in Grenada

Havana, Oct 25 (Prensa Latina) Cubans paid tribute on Wednesday to the 24 national martyrs who fell in Grenada four decades ago, during the U.S. military invasion.

Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez posted on X that those fighters backed the construction of an airport and that, in an unequal and heroic battle, they died on duty facing the U.S. invaders.

Rodriguez further uploaded an image of the mausoleum erected in honor of those martyrs, whose names are on a plaque there. On Wednesday, at the headquarters of the Caribbean Association of Cuba, part of the Caribbean and African diplomatic corps accredited in Havana paid homage to the 24 Cubans, and Grenadian Prime Minister Maurice Bishop, who was assassinated as well, days before the U.S. aggression.

According to the Cuban News Agency, Grenada’s Ambassador to Cuba Benedict Noel said at the ceremony that on that day in 1983, the left forces suffered a hard blow on the dreams and aspirations of millions of people around the world.

Noel highlighted the unconditional support of Cuba to the Grenadian process, and denounced the U.S. blockade against Cuba for over six decades.
