Upon recalling the UN’s primary goal of saving future generations from the scourge of war, Wronecka deplored the increased risks to peace in Lebanon and the region following the ongoing exchanges across the Blue Line.
In this regard, the UN representative called to reduce tensions, end violence, restore calm in the area, and implement Security Council Resolution 1701.
The United Nations, with its 26 different agencies, funds, and programs in the country, has increased its support to Lebanon in recent years in response to the growing challenges, Wronecka stated.
She mentioned that these efforts cover the full spectrum of political and peacekeeping work, humanitarian assistance, and respect for human rights in an inclusive approach and focused on leaving no one behind.
She noted that while the UN is currently coordinating with Lebanon on contingency and preparedness plans, it is also actively working with international partners to help protect the country from conflict.
