President of Colombia to begin state visit to China

Bogotá, Oct 24 (Prensa Latina) The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, will begin a state visit to China at the invitation of President Xi Jinping, with whom he will hold talks aimed at charting the course of development of relations between the two countries.

The two heads of state will attend a ceremony for the signing of cooperation documents between the two nations, according to the spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, who explained that Colombia is an important country in Latin America and that the relations between China and Colombia have developed smoothly, with fruitful cooperation in recent years, which has brought tangible benefits to the two nations.

The presidency of Colombia assured that they will address the construction of the Country’s Railway Network, the Bogotá Metro, and the Silk Road, among other topics.

This will be Petro’s first state visit to China since he took office as president on August 7th, 2022.

When it comes to the political environment between the two nations, one can highlight the dynamic relations developed through dialogue mechanisms like political consultations, the signing of different agreements, and high-level visits.

Colombia established diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China on February 7th, 1980, which have been strengthened at political, economic and cooperation heights.
