Final scrutiny of elections begins in Argentina

Buenos Aires, Oct 24 (Prensa Latina) The final scrutiny of the general elections in Argentina will begin shortly, according to the schedule published by the National Electoral Chamber (CNE).

According to the body, the deadline to make claims and protests regarding the appointment at the polls ends this day, with the vote-counting process beginning at 6:00 p.m. local time.

The task will be carried out by the Electoral Justice, which comprises 24 federal courts of first instance with jurisdiction in each of the districts into which the country is divided (23 provinces and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires).

The CNE reported that the deadline to carry out the process and communicate the results to the Senate of the Nation ends on November 3rd.

According to provisional data, over 27 million people (77.65 percent) attended the polling stations last Sunday. The candidate for Unión por la Patria, Sergio Massa, obtained a support of 36.68 percent, making him the most voted.

In a second round scheduled for November 19th, the current Minister of Economy will have to face, the leader of La Libertad Avanza, Javier Milei, who obtained 29.98% of the votes.

A mandatory debate between Massa and Milei should take place on November 12th, seven days before the second round.
