According to the spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry of China, Mao Ning, the minister will maintain “deep point of view exchanges with US leaders over relations between China and the United States and on international and regional issues of common interest.”
Spokeswoman announced that Wang Yi will convey China’s principles and positions, as well as its “legitimate concerns” about bilateral ties. “China hopes that the United States will cooperate in strengthening communication and dialogue, expand cooperation, properly manage differences and jointly push China-US relations back onto the path of healthy and stable development,” she stated.
The foreign minister will visit the US from Thursday to Saturday, becoming the highest-ranking Chinese official to visit Washington in almost five years.
Bilateral relations are at the worst moment in their history due to the economic war against China, disagreements over the conflict in Ukraine and the Middle East, and US interference in internal affairs such as the Taiwan issue.
