Commenting on the escalation of violence in the conflict, the Foreign Ministry stressed that China’s position is “very much in line with that of the vast Arab countries.”

“We all hope to promote a ceasefire and end the war as soon as possible to prevent the situation from escalating further or even getting out of control,” Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Mao Ning added.

Mao repeated China’s condemnation of actions that harm civilians and violate international law, and called for humanitarian aid and the prevention of more humanitarian disasters.

“We all support the two-State solution to achieve the Palestinian people’s right to statehood, right to existence, and right of return, as we believe it is the only way to resolve the Palestinian issue,” she stressed.

The spokeswoman endorsed the call for a “more authoritative, larger, and more effective” international peace conference as soon as possible to promote the resumption of the Palestine-Israel talks and “formulate a specific timetable and roadmap to this end.”

“As long as promoting dialogue, achieving a ceasefire, and restoring peace is conducive, China will firmly support it; while implementing the two-state solution and promoting a comprehensive, just, and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue is conducive, China will make maximum efforts,” she said.

The Palestinian Government accused Israel on Tuesday of using self-defense as a license to kill the population of the occupied territories, which violates international law.
