The event was devised by the Mexican president in light of the migration crisis that this area is experiencing, from Ecuador to Canada, as countries of issue, transit and destination, in which thousands of people travel the Central American route with the desire to reach North America.
A statement from the presidency of Costa Rica indicated that it seeks to promote a dialogue on joint actions that will enhance the capacities for development and addressing the migration phenomenon, from a humanitarian and solidarity vision.
The text highlights that leaders and representatives of Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Haiti, Panama, Belize and Costa Rica, among other leaders, will participate.
On the 6th, the heads of state of Panama and Costa Rica joined this call from their Mexican counterpart.
From the vicinity of the Darién jungle, one of the most dangerous places of any kind to cross heading north, between the border of Colombia and Panama, both leaders urged migrants to reject this route.
The event is held in the city of Palenque, Chiapas, in southern Mexico, according to the call.
