In his speech at the Cairo Peace Summit, the Iraqi PM described the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories as dire, in light of the Israel’s genocide and the severe humanitarian crisis, due to attacks on civilians in residential areas.
The head of the Iraqi government noted that the recent tragedy of the massacre at the Baptist Hospital in Gaza exposed the true nature of the Knesset, and revealed actions that have crossed all red lines.
In his view, the ongoing incidents are clear and heinous war crimes, beginning with the murders of unarmed individuals and “the imposition of a smothering siege on those who are still among the living.”
In al-Sudani’s opinion, words cannot adequately describe the horrific acts and daily massacres, with innocent lives buried under the rubble of their homes in the very land from which they were displaced originally during the 1948 Nakba. In that regard, he noted, “The situation in Gaza poses a new challenge and a test for the international community, which has repeatedly failed to realize the principles of humanity, justice and freedom.
The Iraqi Prime Minister stressed that the time has come to end this oppressive occupation and the enduring suffering of the Palestinian people.
On this issue, the Iraqi official added that true security and an end to violence can only be achieved by addressing its root causes, which are the occupation and discriminatory policies.
Al-Sudani denounced Israel’s persistent violations of international laws, including those relating to war; and in this regard, he repeated the urgent call for an immediate ceasefire, the opening of border crossings to allow humanitarian aid and relief supplies to arrive in the Gaza Strip.
