The organization’s data show that three girls under ten years of age, 17 women aged 20 to 59, and three aged 66 to 80 are among those who were killed.
According to ORMUSA, one feminicide a week has been committed in the country this year, mainly due to the actions of partners or former artners of the victims (18), exceeding by 14 deaths those reported up to the same date in 2022, a year that ended with 17 deaths.
A press release from the organization stated that 7-year-old Melissa, who was murdered in the La Campanera neighborhood, in Soyapango, on October 10, was among the victims, although the area was part of a military cordon to fight gangs.
The Special Comprehensive Law for a Life Free of Violence in El Salvador defines femicide as the death of a woman due to hatred or contempt for her condition as a woman. The penalty is up to 50 years in prison for aggravated cases and 30 years for a simple femicide.
