Díaz-Canel was concluding a government visit to this eastern province, accompanied by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, Vice President Salvador Valdés, deputy prime ministers, and ministers.
For two days, work commissions visited some 200 economic and social targets and met with more than 600 residents about food and local development.
The head of State verified each area’s potential to respond to the priority given to food production effectively, and demanded the adequate implementation of the Law on Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutrition Security.
“The food sovereignty plan must be at the territorial level, as we appreciate in Cacocúm municipality. Each place needs to know the agricultural items to be produced and where they will be marketed to meet the population’s demands as soon as possible,” he said.
As part of his tour, Díaz-Canel, accompanied by Public Works Minister René Mesa, visited the state-owned Medano construction materials company.
Medano Director Yunior Pupo explained the company’s main results in a series of productions, such as stones, sand, blocks, flooring elements, and high-demand household utensils.
Díaz-Canel also visited the Turquino Basic Enterprise Unit (UEB), which is affiliated with the canning company of this province. There, he learned about the firm’s link with fruit and vegetable producers and with other mini-industries in the region.
The Cuban president acknowledged the results achieved by the company and called on its executives to modernize the plant as much as possible.
Based on the institutions visited, Díaz-Canel urged to generalize the best experiences in economic management in the province.
