Books highlight Cuban prima ballerina Alicia Alonso’s life and work

Havana, Oct 21 (Prensa Latina) The traditional Book Fair on Madera Street in Havana's historic center paid tribute on Saturday to prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso in the 75th anniversary of the National Ballet of Cuba (BNC).

Coordinated by the Cuban Book Institute, the event featured the presentation of the book “Alicia Alonso. Glory and School (bibliographic notes),” by researcher and director of the Dance Museum, Pedro Simon, and published by Ediciones Cubanas.

In order to evoke Alicia Alonso (1920-2019)’s life and work, founder and director for decades of the National Ballet of Cuba, the book “Cuban Prose by Alicia Alonso,” printed by Ediciones Union, was also launched.

The tribute was part of the activities organized on the occasion of Cuba’s Culture Day and to celebrate on October 17 another anniversary of Alicia Alonso’s death.

The Cuban ballerina and cultural promoter is considered one of the most relevant personalities in the history of dance and a leading figure of classical ballet in Ibero-America.
