Venezuela will hold a referendum on Essequibo next December 3

Caracas, Oct 20 (Prensa Latina) The National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela announced today the date of upcoming December 3 to hold the consultative referendum approved by the National Assembly (Parliament) in defense of Guayana Essequibo.

This Tuesday the board of directors and deputies of Parliament delivered to the CNE the request of the call for the popular consultation, which the head of the Electoral Power, Elvis Amoroso, described as an “electoral party.”

Accompanied by dozens of members of social movements and the people in general from the Legislative Branch and to the outskirts of the electoral body, the head of Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, delivered the proposal to Amoroso and other electoral authorities.

The senior CNE official reported that the entity he directs unanimously declared itself in permanent session since the Assembly’s first management on this issue and as part of the schedule, already approved, in 72 hours the answer and the question(s) of the consultation will be known.

He stated that this process is to strengthen democracy and give the people the power granted to them by the Constitution. Rodríguez said that this is a proposal for national unity that involves all Venezuelans, regardless of the political ideology, creed and worldview of each human mind, to all advance and say from the hearts of patriots: “I defend my territory of Guayana Esequibo”.

He recalled the date of September 21, 2023, when the National Assembly unanimously activated the constitutional initiative established in article 71 of the Magna Carta, so that Venezuelans, through direct, secret and automated voting, define courses and paths to take.

In addition to the efforts that “we will make it an incontrovertible fact, a historical, geographical, economic and social truth even more firmly established,” he pointed out.

He stressed that the limits of Venezuela are those established since the Captaincy General in 1777 and pointed out that the Constitution in its article 10 states that “we accept all Treaties and all Awards that are not vitiated by nullity.”

What they did in 1899 through the flawed Paris Arbitration Award was “purely and simply an attempted theft” of one third of the Bolivarian Republic, which is why, he opined, all the people, their institutions and all Venezuelans have to come out. defend Guayana Esequiba.
