The children were the protagonists of this commemoration, which recalls the beginning of the struggles for independence, and for being the date on which, for the first time, on October 20, 1868, in the city of Bayamo, the National Anthem, composed by “Perucho Figueredo,” was sung.
At the beginning of the activity, those present sang the notes of the National Anthem, while two students hoisted the flag, which was the inspiration of the struggles for independence and a symbol of honor for all Cubans.
On the occasion, the twelfth grade student Adriana Díaz recited the poem Tengo, by the National Poet, Nicolás Guillén, whose verses reflect the transformations that took place in Cuba since the triumph of the Revolution, on January 1, 1959.
