Before those gathered under the rain on Los Presidents Avenue, in Havana, Palestinian Ambassador to Cuba Akram Samhan recalled the number of dead, wounded and displaced people and demanded an immediate ceasefire, and to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza urgently.
“The Palestinian people love independence and freedom,” said the Palestinian diplomat, who thanked Cubans for their solidarity, and highlighted the role of international public opinion to end genocide and force Israel to comply with legality and international law.
ISRI students and professors, together with diplomats, representatives of neighboring cultural institutions, young Palestinians who are studying medicine here and neighbors, joined their voices at an open microphone to condemn Israel’s ferocious aggression against the Gaza Strip, as well as the indiscriminate attacks to which that people has been subjected for decades.
Those present demanded an end to the indiscriminate bombings of the civilian population, which have killed thousands and have caused heavy material damage to educational facilities and other civilian infrastructures.
The speakers insisted that the Israeli government should immediately lift the total blockade of the Gaza Strip, which is putting Palestinian children and the population in general at grave risk and is a basic violation of human rights.
They also called for the Palestinian people’s legitimate right to self-determination and the establishment of their own independent and sovereign State within the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
