Prensa Latina advocates expanding ties with world media

Beijing, Oct 19 (Prensa Latina) The President of the Prensa Latina news agency proposed to establish a regular communication mechanism and to improve ties between media outlets from countries that are members of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Prensa Latina, which has about 40 correspondents around the world, is a member of the board of the BRI News Network, which organized the Belt and Road Media Cooperation Forum.

During his speech at the forum, the president of the agency, Luis Enrique González, urged to improve the links between the media and member organizations in terms of content exchange, joint production, training of journalists and mutual support. “Just as the Belt and Road Initiative promotes a new form of cooperation between more than 150 nations, we at Prensa Latina also believe in the need for a new global governance and in the role that each of us as media outlets can play in regards to this,” he said.

For 65 years, Prensa Latina, a Latin American news agency, has been an alternative to the hegemonic media, “that is why the opportunities for cooperation offered by China and its links with our continent, have been present on our editorial agenda,” he noted.

González also pointed out that the agency prioritizes the publication of events that represent the Global South and developing countries. “From the media point of view, fake news, smear campaigns and distortion of the truth are the main tools used against those of us who reject unilateralism, the Cold War mentality and the supremacy of the strongest,” he stated.

In González’s opinion, the Belt and Road News Network represents an important space, where more than 230 media outlets and international organizations, and their hopes for a multipolar world, converge. “Prensa Latina is ready to work with everyone in the construction of content committed to the truth, that promotes knowledge and the responsible use of information technologies and artificial intelligence,” he said.

González also urged us all to work together to promote the vision of a sustainable world with green development, in which different civilizations coexist in peace.
