Pakistan sends humanitarian aid to Palestinians

Islamabad, Oct 19 (Prensa Latina) Pakistan sent humanitarian aid for the population of the Gaza Strip, mainly victims of the Israeli war against Palestine, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said on Thursday.

A plane laden with 100 tons of medical supplies, tents and blankets left for Egypt from where the aid will be transported to the Palestinian territory, the diplomat confirmed at a press conference.

She expressed her disappointment with the outcome of Wednesday’s emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) due to the United States’ veto of a resolution that would alleviate the situation in Gaza.

The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman criticized the UNSC’s veto policy for failing to rule in favor of allowing humanitarian corridors in the strip, a pause on the attacks and the lifting of the illegal order of withdrawal given by the Israeli Government to the Palestinians.

Baloch urged the representatives of the international body to play their role and act immediately to stop the humanitarian catastrophe. She expressed her government’s call for a ceasefire and an end to hostilities, and demanded that the international community work to ensure peace.

The Pakistani diplomat reaffirmed that her country favors dialogue as the best way to seek a solution of the problems.

She condemned Israel’s atrocities in Gaza, particularly the recent attack on a hospital where hundreds of people were killed, including women, children, medical personnel and civilians sheltering from Israel’s heavy shelling.

The deliberate targeting of civilians is a war crime, she said.
